In case you’ve been living under a rock or have a life outside of the monitor then you won’t know that Twestival is taking place at 175+ locations across the planet this coming Thursday February 12th 2009. “WTF!?” you say. Well Twestival, in a nutshell, is a charity event being held to raise money for charity: water where cities across the globe will host a get together for all the Twitter users in the near by area. Sound nerdy? It is.

The chances are if you live in Europe, North America or Australia then there will be an event near you, as well as the odd one dotted across Africa, South America and the Middle East, so if you want to help out a worthy cause theres no excuse not attend (unless you’re trapped down a well).

If I’m being honest when I first heard about this I doubted its ability to pull people together for a common cause, but reading the blogs, tweets and press surrounding the events worldwide its looks as if Twestival have achieved exactly what they set out to and if ticket sales are anything to go by it should be a fairly big gathering in most places.

For the North East peeps Tyne Twestival will be going off at The Other Rooms up in Newcastle’s Times Square at 7.30pm. It’ll have all the shenanigans of the other gatherings including raffles, competitions, prizes, music and most importantly drinking and global events and charities aside meet ups like this are always worth the trip if its just to meet other local tech types, designers, writers, developers and business people (including me!).

At last count there was 6 tickets left (although they might release more) so if you want one you’ll need to be quick.
